The Zero Mercury Working Group and the EEB have been supporting NGOs from developed and developing countries, for national activities as well as participation at international level, to assist in the global campaign. Since 2005 around 5 projects per year have been carried out in over 25 countries. The projects are designed to contribute to the ZMWG global objectives and the effective implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

- African Caribbean Pacific Multilateral Environmental Agreements, Phase 3 (ACP MEAs 3)
- Furthermore, in 2017 the EEB together with SSNC and the ZMWG have initiated a campaign towards phasing out mercury added skin lightening creams.
Recent Projects
- GEF - Small Grants Programme (2018-2019)
- The EEB/ZMWG carried out (July 2014 – December 2017) an FAO/EC supported project entitled: “Contributing to the preparation/implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, with a focus on developing strategies for phasing out mercury-added products and on reducing mercury use in Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining through development of National Action Plans.”
Earlier Projects
- Between 2006-2010, focus was given to a European Chlor-alkali campaign. Five NGOS have been supported respectively from Spain (Ecologistas en Accion), Italy (Legambiente), Czech Republic (Arnika), Germany (DNR) and France (FNE) - towards phasing out mercury use in the chlor-alkali sector.
